About Sarah Jones

Sarah Jones is the Member of Parliament for Croydon West and Minister of State for Industry and Decarbonisation. She was the MP for Croydon Central from 2017-2024 before boundary changes at the last election.

After becoming an MP, Sarah set up and led the national cross-party campaign against knife crime and previously held the positions of Shadow Housing Minister, and Shadow Minister for Policing and the Fire Service.

In 2018, Sarah campaigned alongside Baroness Tessa Jowell for better treatment for brain tumours and led a high-profile debate in the House of Commons. Sarah continued to campaign in the wake of Tessa’s death from brain cancer, prompting the government to launch the Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission. Sarah now sits on the Joint Strategy Board of the Mission.

Sarah was appointed as the Shadow Minister of Industry and Decarbonisation in 2023, and took up the Ministerial position in the Departments of Business & Trade and Energy & Net Zero after Labour’s victory in the General Election of 4th July 2024.

A former senior civil servant, Sarah was a member of the top team delivering the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games. She held various senior roles within the NHS and as Head of Campaigns at the housing charity Shelter. Sarah began her career working for Labour MP and Northern Ireland Secretary Mo Mowlam.

Sarah has lived in Croydon all her life and her kids go to school here. Locally she has recently set up campaigns to combat fly-tipping, ‘rezone’ Croydon’s main stations to make commuting cheaper, and introduce new tram safety laws following the 2016 Croydon Tram Crash.
