Croydon was first represented as a separate borough in the House of Commons in 1885. As recess starts, I did some digging, and found that in those years…
– There have been 33 Members of Parliament. 32 of them were men.
– There have been 3 Knights of the Realm.
– Two men called William, two called David, two called John, and two called Richard.
– And just one woman (me!)
I’m incredibly proud to be the 486th ever woman elected to the House of Commons, and the first ever in the borough of Croydon. I know I won’t be the last, but I look forward to many more years of representing my constituents and my hometown in the House of Commons.
