Comment on the Sandilands Tram Crash Ruling

My thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones in the Croydon Tram Crash on 9 November 2016. I know that the sense of injustice they feel makes grieving even harder. The victims’ families should never have had to suffer this way.

Next month we will hear sentencing against Tram Operations Limited and TfL, who have pleaded guilty to not taking reasonable care. So we await that judgement now. I am 100% sure that the changes that have been made to the Croydon Tram system will mean that a crash like this can never happen again in Croydon. But I cannot be 100% sure that every tram network across the country can say the same. I am disappointed that the government still hasn’t completed its review into tram legislation that it promised me over 18 months ago. I will be asking the Minister again. We must finish this job for the sake of those who lost their lives.
