Govia have woefully let down the people of Croydon by mismanaging the Southern Rail Franchise. Along with Croydon Labour Councillors I am calling for the franchise to be stripped from the company.
Figures unearthed by Croydon Labour have shown that over the past three months, six key rush-hour Southern suburban services stopping at Croydon stations were late or cancelled on average 72 per cent of the time.
If elected I will work to fix the Tory Transport Chaos which has engulfed Croydon. The Conservatives have been playing politics with our town.
I will campaign to devolve control of Croydon's railways to Transport for London. Under TfL, service on the London Overground network has improved astoundingly - it is now one of the UK's best performing rail networks.
Gavin Barwell pledged to support rail devolution, before performing a cycnical U-turn alongsider Transport Secretary Chris Grayling. Leaked documents revealed that the two were playing petty politics - they didn't want to hand control of rail services to a Labour Mayor, Sadiq Khan.
If elected, I will also revive the Zone4Croydon campaign, which would see East and West Croydon stations moved into TfL Zone 4. This would save commuters up to £356 per year.
Croydon Labour have launched a #SackSouthern petition which you can read below.
"We the undersigned call upon the UK Government and Transport Secretary to immediately strip Govia Thameslink Railway of the Southern train contract and pass responsibility for managing the service to Transport for London, which operates under the democratic oversight of the directly elected and accountable Mayor of London.
As residents of the London Borough of Croydon, we also call upon Croydon Council to use its resources and influence to support and campaign for this objective."
