Last week I made my maiden speech in parliament, in a debate on Grenfell Tower. You can watch the highlights of the speech here.
I made my maiden speech in parliament during a debate on Grenfell Tower. I praised Gavin Barwell for his work to bring in 'Lilian's law' on drug driving following the tragic death of Lilian Groves in 2010. I talked about what a remarkable place Croydon is, and the huge potential for our home town. Its diversity is its strength.
Then I covered politicians' failure to listen and how we need to give our communities a bigger voice - not only on housing, on so many issues people face every day. First things first I want to see Government help councils with funding to install sprinklers in high tower blocks. It was great to see Croydon Council promise this but council budgets are already being squeezed and this is too important to ignore.
Finally I talked about how we can't let down the young people who voted for the first time across the country.
