What events do you want?

We want to engage as many new and young members within our campaigns and community efforts as possible. It is only with the new ideas and energy of young and new members that our movement continues to move forward. So please let us know what kind of events and campaigns YOU want to take part in? Whether that is regular coffee mornings, community action plans, campaigns on social causes or local services... Leave us your suggestions in the comments box and we will be in touch to make those actions happen.

I joined last year and I I think attempts to welcome new members should be a big part of the agenda as there are so many of us. The thing is that some of us are very new to active politics! I think you need to think sideways about how to engage people. Personally I find it confusing at times to understand exactly what is going on and how to get involved. I face a particular problem when doing anything that requires going anywhere as I have a disabled daughter. If it wasn’t for that I probably would have made it to a meeting by now, but I’m not sure that would be enough to truly engage me. They don’t teach politics much in schools in the UK (well they didn’t at mine!) so for some people everything you are talking about can sound very alien. I had thought about using the Meetup app to create a meetup specifically for (and organised by) NEW members in Croydon area so they can all meet each other and compare stories, motivations for joining. More established members could then come along and work the room chatting about how things are done – even speak for a few minutes on things. If you aren’t familiar with meetup it’s here – https://www.meetup.com/. First chance I’ve had to float the idea as daughter has been ill and I would definitely need at least one partner in crime to do it, but I think that the idea of something organised by new members themselves might appeal to people.
